In the wake of the arrest of a top Indian Mujahideen terrorist said to be planning to attack senior leaders during the elections, the BJP Monday raised alarm bells against Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s remarks suggesting no fresh threat to BJP leaders and accused the Congress-led UPA government of being reluctant to enhance security cover to their leaders.
“India cannot afford to lower its guard. As security agencies work overtime to track the activities of these groups, it is surprising that the political establishment of the Home Ministry recently announced that they had no information about any threat to political leaders, particularly of the BJP during the election campaign,” senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said in a signed article Monday.
BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi issued a veiled caution to Shinde for allegedly “emboldening” terrorists with his statements. “We should not issue statements which embolden terrorists,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson, in fact, accused the government of being reluctant to enhance security of BJP leaders.
