BJP protests rock HP House

The BJP did not participate in the proceedings.

The month-long budget session of Himachal Pradesh started on a stormy note Tuesday with the Opposition BJP creating a ruckus and stalling the proceedings in the House seeking immediate discussions on its adjournment motions on illegal phone tapping and changing of names of the schemes launched during Prem Kumar Dhumal’s tenure.

The House witnessed sloganeering, shouting and interruptions as all the 26 BJP MLAs,led by Dhumal continued their protest refusing to take their seats.

As the Opposition refused to budge,Speaker BB Butail decided to carry on with the listed agenda for the day and completed the Question Hour and the process to elect Kinnaur MLA Jagat Singh Negi to the post of Deputy Speaker. The BJP did not participate in the proceedings .

Later addressing mediapersons in his chamber,Virbharda said disruption of the proceedings by BJP members demonstrated their frustration. The Chief Minister named his predecessor P.K.Dhumal of BJP and some top police officers in connection with phone tapping. He said phone-tapping was never done during Congress rule in the past.

“It’s only during Dhumal’s tenure that such petty things were done and even my rooms were bugged in Himachal Bhavans (state guest houses in Chandigarh and Delhi) while he was in opposition and later minister at the centre,” Singh alleged.
