In Delhi, Nitish and Kejriwal launch joint attack on PM Narendra Modi

The Delhi chief minister maintained that Modi follows double standard as he speaks something before polls and does something else after polls.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday came together to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi, thereby raising the poll pitch ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls. What was slated to be a cultural event set the tone for the upcoming polls with Kejriwal batting for Nitish while the latter attacked Modi’s Rs 1.25 lakh crore package for the state.

The event was Bihar Samman Sammelan organised by Maithili Bhojpuri Academy, a state-funded language academy, to felicitate outstanding contributions to the fields of art, culture, academics, medicine by Biharis. Nitish Kumar was the chief guest at the event.

Addressing a packed auditorium, the Bihar CM said, “Modi announced a Rs 1.25 lakh crore package but will he please explain what is it for, when will we get it or whether it has been sanctioned. I request him to stop this petty give-and-take. If he really wants to give Bihar something then grant the state special status.”

Reacting to Modi’s comment that “Delhi’s mood is the country’s mood”, Nitish said, “People have shown Delhi’s mood. In Delhi, the AAP had a clean sweep with 67 out of 70 seats but ‘woh transfer mein baadha daal rahe hai’ (they are creating problems with transfer of officers). Won’t the state government decide who will be the chief secretary? Delhi should get full statehood while Bihar should get special status.”

Kejriwal joined the demand and asked the Bihari diaspora to “call up relatives back in Bihar to convey the message”.

He also attacked the PM on the Rs 1.25 lakh crore package for Bihar, alleging that it was an attempt to “buy votes”.

“If he has so much money then why does he not go to Jantar Mantar and announce funds for One Rank, One Pension (OROP). In the last 25 years, no party got such a mandate but that trust is broken now. What has he done in the last one year? He had promised to get back black money and now he is saying forget black money, do yoga. Had he told people he would make them do yoga no one would have voted for him,” said Kejriwal.
