Bakkarwala’s two aides arrested in Delhi

Two close associates of Manoj Bakkarwala were arrested in New Delhi with police recovering three stolen luxury cars from them.

Two close associates of Manoj Bakkarwala,a Delhi carjacker allegedly involved in more than 500 thefts of four-wheelers in the past 11 years,were arrested here with police recovering three stolen luxury cars from them,police said on Monday.

Surender Bhatt (28) and Rattan Chopra (29) were caught recently following investigations into the activities of the members of Bakkarwala gang,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.

Chopra along with Bakkarwala had managed to give police a slip on May 8 when they were cornered near Rohini in south-west Delhi. They opened fire at the police party and ran away from the spot.

With this,20 members of the gang,including Bakkarwala,have been arrested.

Bakkarwala,who escaped from the custody of Gurgaon Police in July 2008,was caught from near Najafgarh on July 14 when he was at his village there.

The arrests came after police started tracking movements of Bakkarwala and his associates.

It also came to light that Bhatt was involved in extorting money from cable operators of Rohini.

Recently he opened fire on two different cable operators when they refused to meet his illegal demands.

“Bhatt was arrested from Mahipalpur while he was going in a luxury car stolen from Greater Kailash. Rattan was arrested from Vasant Kunj locality,” Dhaliwal said.
