Autorickshaw union threaten to go on strike

The autorickshaw union threatened to go on a strike if GPS is installed in three-wheelers.

A prominent autorickshaw union on wednesday threatened to go on strike if the city government does not withdraw its decision of making it mandatory to install GPS in the three-wheelers.

The city government has issued an order asking all autorickshaw owners to install GPS in their vehicles.

“We go on strike if the government does not review its decision within next seven days,” general secretary of Auto Drivers Welfare Union Rakesh Chandra said.

The city government, while announcing the hike in auto fares in June last year, had declared that permits of three-wheelers will be cancelled if Global Positioning System (GPS) was not installed in the vehicles.

The transport department had recently asked the auto owners to install GPS as soon as possible.
