The CBI today filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Apna Ghar sex abuse case, holding the investigating officer (IO) of Haryana Police in the case,Bhim Singh Ranga, responsible for official misconduct. Ranga, now retired,is out on bail.
The supplementary chargesheet also produced fresh evidence against the main accused in the case of sexual exploitation at the Rohtak-based shelter home.
The Apna Ghar shelter hit the headlines when a team of National Commission for Protection of Child Right (NCPCR) rescued nearly 120 people, including children and women, from the home after carrying out a surprise raid on May 9 last year.
SP (CBI) Tarun Gauba said the supplementary chargesheet was filed before a special CBI magistrate at Panchkula against 10 accused, including former IO Ranga. He added that during investigation it was found that the official was liable for misconduct, but the criminal accusation against him could not be proved.
There was accusation that the official had helped destroy evidence by getting nude pictures on the laptop seized in the case deleted, but the same has not been proved, he said.
The CBI was investigating allegations that the official had connived in destruction of evidence and had given a laptop to two employees of Apna Ghar,Dayanand and Harvinder Singh. The CBI found that the two employees had no role in the destruction of evidence. The supplementary chargesheet reportedly has strong evidence such as DNA samples to nail the other accused.
The CBI had earlier filed a chargesheet against seven accused,Jaswanti Devi, the main accused, her brother Jaswant Singh, daughter Simmi,son-in-law Jai Bhagwan, driver Satish, his sister Sheela and counsellor Veena.
DNA matching proved that Jai Bhagwan was the father of a baby girl born to a physically challenged rape victim. The 20-year-old victim delivered the baby on September 16,2012.
The case has been listed for hearing on September 30.
