Meanwhile, two Gujarat castes join OBC list

The Cabinet has cleared the inclusion of Kahar and Tanwar Singhariya communities in Uttarakhand in the list of OBCs.

The Union Cabinet cleared amendments in the Central list of OBCs Wednesday, allowing Gujarat and Uttarakhand to include two communities each in the list.

Following recommendations made by the National Commission for Backward Classes, the Sipai and the Patni Jamat or Turk Jamat have been included in the list of OBCs in Gujarat. Those belonging to Patni Jamat or Turk Jamat are all Muslims.

The cabinet has also cleared the inclusion Kahar and Tanwar Singhariya communities in Uttarakhand.

“The amendments will enable the persons belonging to these castes/ communities to avail the benefits of reservation in government services and posts as well as in central educational institutions as per the existing policy,” the government said in a statement.
