The Union Cabinet cleared amendments in the Central list of OBCs Wednesday, allowing Gujarat and Uttarakhand to include two communities each in the list. Following recommendations made by the National Commission for Backward Classes, the Sipai and the Patni Jamat or Turk Jamat have been included in the list of OBCs in Gujarat. Those belonging to Patni Jamat or Turk Jamat are all Muslims.
