Hooda gives Rs 1 crore to Bibipur for speaking against female foeticide

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday announced Rs 1 crore for the development of Bibipur village in Jind district, where a Khap Mahapanchayat on Saturday had termed female foeticide a “heinous act” and demanded murder charges be slapped against those involved in the illegal practice.

Expressing hope that other khap panchayats will also come forward to launch a mass movement against such social evils,Hooda said: “The initiative taken by Bibipur village and khap panchayat will usher in a new social change not only in Haryana, but also in the entire country. More villages and khap panchayats should come forward to condemn female foeticide.”

He added that though the state government had enforced the PNDT Act in letter and spirit,a number of incentive-based schemes had been launched to check the menace of female foeticide and motivate people to change their mindset in favour of girl child, yet the issue needed wholehearted support of the people.

“The village and khap panchayat have shown to the entire country how such bodies can bring about a social change for the good of humanity. The imbalance in sex ratio is a big social problem and it needs to be checked with commitment and will,” said Hooda.

The Khap Mahapanchayat, which for the first time saw a large number of women participants, was held in Bibipur village, where it was also decided that a campaign will be launched against the rampant social evil. The Mahapanchayat, attended by several Khaps from Haryana,Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, was held to create awareness among people against the social malady.
