Army Chief General Bikram Singh along with the Western Army Commander visited the Vajra Corps to review the striking corps’ operational preparedness here on Thursday.

JALANDHAR: Army Chief General Bikram Singh along with the Western Army Commander visited the Vajra Corps to review the striking corps’ operational preparedness here on Thursday. The Army Chief was briefed by the General Officer,Commanding,Vajra Corps,before he interacted with other senior officers. The General Officer expressed his satisfaction on the state of the division’s readiness.

Memorial to spread legacy of Punjabis

CHANDIGARH: In a bid to evolve consensus on the concept and design of world class Jang-e-Azaadi memorial,the state government has constituted a foundation to implement the project in a time-bound manner under the Chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. A spokesperson of the CMO said that the memorial would come up at Kartarpur in Jalandhar over 25 acre to perpetuate the rich legacy of Punjabis in the Indian Independence Movement amongst the younger generations.

Red cards: Court orders fresh probe

CHANDIGARH: A fresh probe into the issuance of red cards to 30 beneficiaries was ordered on Thursday by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Punjab had earlier denied irregularity in the issuance of red cards to 578 riot victims. A vigilance inquiry report stated that the documents furnished by about 30 beneficiaries were forged. Dissatisfied with Punjab’s stand,the Court has asked the government to file a fresh affidavit with details of the inquiry.

Pay widow for custodial death: HC

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday awarded a compensation of Rs 3.5 lakh to a widow whose husband had died in jail. Eight years after Charanjit Singh of Jagraon died in Ludhiana Jail,the Court directed the Punjab government to pay the compensation. The directions were passed on a petition filed by human rights activist Balwinder Kaur.

Deepender targets N-plant opponents

CHANDIGARH: MP Deepender Singh Hooda on Thursday targeted political parties that were opposing the setting up of a nuclear power plant in Fatehabad. The MP,while addressing a gathering,after inaugurating the first session of Government College for Women and ITI,Bawani Khera,said,“Today is the era of awareness,but the opposition parties only want to fulfil their vested political interests and push the state back in terms of development.”

4 sites for waste treatment plants

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government will set up a Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility at four different places in the state for the management and handling of bio-medical waste of government and private hospitals. A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Secretary PK Chaudhery. The tentative places for the facilities are Faridabad,Hisar,Jhajjar and Karnal.

Govt employees’ pay structure revised

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has raised the pay structure of certain categories of government employees. As per orders issued by the Finance Department,the pay structure of sub inspectors,inspectors (audit),senior auditors in the Cooperation Department,dental surgeons and senior dental surgeons have been revised. The modified pay structure will be applicable only after amendment are made to the service rules.
