The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asked the state government to strictly implement reservation policy in all the educational institutions and conduct necessary study to raise its level,in view of the Supreme Court directives for 27 per cent OBC quota.

“In view of the Supreme Court directives to all states to give 27 per cent reservation for OBCs,Goa should make necessary study and implement the reservation in all segments to raise social standards of OBCs,” Spokesman to BJP’s Goa Legislative Wing Damodar Naik said.

“The Education Department should direct all the high schools as well as higher secondary schools to give 19.5 per cent reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs),” Naik said.

He recalled that in 1998 the State government had issued instructions to implement reservation policy and further in 2007,the circular was amended to adopt 12 per cent reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in all the institutes.

Noting that the Government has already kept 19.5 per cent reservation for OBCs in various sectors like employment, technical institutes Naik said,”In accordance with the same, the Education Department should issue instructions to all the high schools as well as higher secondary schools.”
