One person was killed and three injured when a three-storey building collapsed at Bhiwandi,Thane,on Sunday.

One person was killed and three injured when a three-storey building collapsed at Bhiwandi,Thane,on Sunday. Police said the incident occurred around 1.15 pm during heavy rain,the three-storey building Ganesh Bhavan,near Apsara Talkies on Kalyan Bhiwandi Road collapsed.

The building housed 16 flats and a bar called Kubera. The bar owner,Kantana Shetty,had removed a pillar to make a hall despite objections from residents of the building. This probably weakened the balance of the building,which was old and it collapsed when it rained heavily, said PSI Subhash Dodhal of Shanti Nagar police. Uddeshwar Paswan (45),who worked on a plot next door,died due of head injury while three others were injured.
