Madhya Pradesh: Two held for ‘carrying beef’

Police said they are unsure if the three quintal meat seized is beef, but claimed the accused had admitted that it was.

Two Muslims, including a minor, were picked up by police Saturday for allegedly transporting beef in Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh on a tip-off by gau raksha activists.

Police said they are unsure if the three quintal meat seized is beef, but claimed the accused had admitted that it was.

“We will know whether it is beef only after getting a report from a forensic laboratory,” Akodiya police station in-charge P L Chouhan said. Sajid Shaikh, 39, was remanded in a day’s custody, while the 16-year-old was sent to judicial custody. VHP leader Sohan Vishwkarma said the arrest followed a tip-off provided by his activists.
