Kashmir unrest: In solidarity with protestors, Muslims in Ramban observe bandh

While no untoward incident was reported from any place in Ramban district during the bandh, elsewhere in Jammu region Muslims kept their business establishments open as usual during the day.

To express solidarity with the people of Kashmir who have been protesting over the killing of civilians in retaliatory action by security forces against violent mobs, Muslims in Ramban district observed partial to near total bandh at various places on Friday.

Giving details, sources said that bandh was complete in Banihal town and its outskirts where traders kept their shutters down and local traffic remained off the roads during the day. In view of the bandh, attendance in many state government offices was thin.

At Gool, Sangaldan too bandh was near total with Muslims taking out processions in protest over alleged security forces atrocities on protestors in the Valley agitating the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. At Ramban and Batote, the bandh was partial where only Muslims kept their shutters down.

While no untoward incident was reported from any place in Ramban district during the bandh, elsewhere in Jammu region Muslims kept their business establishments open as usual during the day.

The death toll in Kashmir rose to 44 on Friday, even as curfew remained in force in all 10 districts of the Valley due to apprehension of law and order problems in view of large gatherings for Friday prayers. Authorities had eased curfew in four districts — Baramulla, Bandipora, Budgam and Ganderbal — on Thursday to facilitate reopening of schools. However, most of the schools in these districts remained closed as parents chose not to send their wards due to security apprehensions.

Mobile telephony and mobile internet services remained suspended for the 14th day today. Normal life remains paralysed for two weeks now due to curfew and a separatist-sponsored strike.
