Ripun Bora.
You tore up Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain’s statement on Sunday’s train accident and threw away the pieces. Why?
I tore it up in protest. It was proper that the cabinet minister should have come to the House. So many people have died. It is such a serious matter and the government has no concern about it.
Do you think there is a reason for such accidents?
It’s a technical matter. I cannot pinpoint the reason. I cannot say whether it is sabotage or technical defect. But there is definitely something lacking in safety measures.
What would you want the government to do to prevent such accidents?
The government should take foolproof safety measures. There should be strict surveillance, constant monitoring. Nine thousand posts in the railway safety department are vacant and should be filled up.
So what will you do after this protest?
When the issue is discussed in Parliament, we will put our suggestions.
Do you think it is an issue that calls for the attention of all parties?
All Opposition parties should take up this issue jointly.
