For UP roads, Centre sanctions Rs 3,335 cr

Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s four proposals for 74.45-km road in Rae Bareli — worth Rs 144.95 crore — have been approved.

The Union government has approved Rs 3,335 crore for strengthening the state road network under the Central Road Fund (CRF). This follows recommendations of MPs from UP, including Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as well as SP’s Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav.

However, the Centre’s approved project list does not contain any proposal from the three remaining SP MPs — SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav (Azamgarh), his nephew Akshay Yadav (Ferozabad) and his grand nephew Tej Pratap Singh Yadav (Mainpuri).

Reports said Congress’ Ajay Rai, who had contested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and is currently in jail, is the only MLA from UP whose proposal to widen and strengthen a 21.20-km stretch in the city — worth Rs 47.59 crore — has been approved by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
