THE GOVERNMENT may go in for an early Winter Session of Parliament to pass GST-related Bills so that it is in a position to roll out the new tax regime from April 1. Sources said the session, which normally begins in the third week of November, may be advanced by a fortnight. It implies the session may get underway any time after Chhat Puja, which falls on November 6.
Parliament has to pass legislation on Central GST and Integrated GST , which will pave way for the Goods and Services Tax, to be approved within November or by early December. The two laws are designed to prop up the new tax regime after the Constitutional (122nd Amendment) Bill, which was passed in the Monsoon Session.
