Just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ambedkar Memorial at Indu Mill in Central Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday removed unauthorised hoardings apparently erected by the BJP.
At least 10 large hoardings in the Shivaji Park area, including in the land leading to Chaityabhoomi, were pulled down.

The BMC is led by the Shiv Sena, the BJP’s ally in the state government. Relations between the two allies have hit another rough patch in recent days with Sena leaders completely boycotting the Prime Minister’s functions in the city on Sunday.

The hoardings that were removed featured large photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP’s Mumbai unit chief, Ashish Shelar. However, Republican Party of India flags along the road remained untouched.
Officials said the hoardings were removed because they were not licenced. Assistant Municipal Commissioner of G/North ward Sharad Ughade said, “The posters were pulled down because of not having prior permission to set them up.”
