From increased deployment of ships and aircraft for joint maritime surveillance to customised training for Mauritius police officers and timely delivery of 100 e-buses to supporting implementation of the e-judiciary system — India and Mauritius agreed on a raft of outcomes after PM Narendra Modi and Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam met over the last couple of days in Port Louis.
The joint statement said the leaders had “comprehensive and productive discussions” on the entire gamut of bilateral relations.
Ramgoolam underscored India’s role as a time-tested and trusted partner of Mauritius in its socio-economic development since the time of its independence.

PM Modi noted that Mauritius stands at the junction of India’s Vision SAGAR, its Neighbourhood First approach and its commitment to the Global South, and underlined the important role played by Mauritius in advancing these policies for the common benefit of both countries.
This is significant in the context of China’s strategic footprint increasing in the region, which includes the island countries and developing countries.
