IIT-Guwahati student arrested under UAPA for ‘links with ISIS’
The accused, identified as Touseef Ali Farooqui, is a 4th-year student of Bioscience and was detained by the Assam police on Saturday.

An IIT-Guwahati student was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on Sunday after he allegedly pledged allegiance to Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), news agency PTI reported.
The accused, identified as Touseef Ali Farooqui, is a 4th-year student of Bioscience and was detained by the Assam police on Saturday.
Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) Inspector General Parthasarathi Mahanta said his interrogation led to credible evidence of his links with the ISIS after which he was arrested under various sections of IPC and UAPA.
“We produced him in the court, which has sent to police custody for 10 days. We also carried out a search in his hostel room inside the IIT-Guwahati campus,” PTI quoted Mahanta as saying.
Farooqui, who hails from Delhi, was detained at Hajo in Kamrup district while he was on his way to join the terror group. This came three days after the ISIS India head Haris Farooqi alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi and his aide Anurag Singh alias Rehan were arrested in Dhubri district after they crossed over from Bangladesh.
