On the occasion of the 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme being aired on Sunday, special events were held across the country to mark the milestone. Here’s what happened in some states and UTs:
Jammu and Kashmir: Across the Union Territory, 100 marathons were organised to mark the 100th episode of Mann ki Baat and to raise awareness against drug abuse and drug trafficking. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, after flagging off one of the marathons, joined several eminent personalities at an event organised at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu to listen to the Mann ki Baat episode. He hailed Mann ki Baat as as a source of inspiration to people to realise their dreams. The BJP also organised booth-level events.
Karnataka: The 100th Mann ki Baat episode aired as the PM campaigned in Karnataka ahead of the Assembly election in the state. M G Mahesh, the BJP’s spokesperson in Karnataka, said party leaders across the state had organised booth-level events to mark the occasion, and that more than 10 lakh people participated in these events. BJP national president J P Nadda listened to the Mann Ki Baat episode at Honnali in Davangere district.
Gujarat: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Governor Acharya Devvrat attended special screenings arranged for the 100th episode. The CM attended the event at Shilaj village in Ahmedabad. The Governor attended an event at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar. “(Mann ki Baat) has empowered ordinary citizens to reach new heights in their fields. (The PM) has given global recognition to people who serve selflessly,” Devvrat said.
West Bengal: Governor CV Ananda Bose listened to the episode at an event organised at Raj Bhavan. “Mann ki Baat has brought transformation in the lives of numerous people. Only a person who thinks about the various problems faced by the common man can do such a programme,” Bose said. Opposition Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP attended such an event at his constituency, Nandigram.
Tripura: Chief Minister Manik Saha, his Cabinet ministers, party leaders and government officials attended the live broadcast of the speech at the state Governor’s residence.
Uttarakhand: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami listened to the programme at an event in Nainital, attended by officials and school children.
Haryana: CM Manohar Lal Khattar joined members of the public at an event in Panchkula. Khattar said such events were organised at 100 places in every Assembly constituency in the state. He said it was a matter of pride for Haryana that in the 100th episode, the PM lauded the efforts of Sunil Jaglan (for the ‘Selfie With Daughter’ campaign), a resident of Bibipur village in Jind district, and Pradeep Sangwan (for his campaigns aimed at cleaning mountains), of Charkhi Dadri.
Goa: Attending an event in Sankhalim, CM Pramod Sawant said the programme shown a new direction to the country. At an event at Goa’s Raj Bhavan, Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai called Mann ki Baat the biggest apolitical and positive mass communication programme.
Kerala: At Raj Bhavan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan held a screening, which was attended by Union Minister V Muraleedharan. Khan and Muraleedharan then addressed the audience, which included film director Major Ravi and former DGP T P Senkumar. The BJP also organised booth-level events. In Malappuram, Islamic educational hub Ma’din Academy conducted a mass screening of the programme, attended by students and teachers.
