Addressing a World Press Freedom Day event here, Sawant said, "You cannot criticise the country in the name of freedom of speech. If you live in this country and abuse it, it will not be accepted," said the chief minister.
In a stunning turn of events, the BJP got Speaker Michael Lobo to open his office at 1 am Wednesday. They had got two MGP MLAs to split and merge with BJP. And by afternoon, CM Sawant dropped Dhavalikar from the council of ministers.
Responding to the decision, Dhavalikar said, "MGP is a party of the people. At night, the chowkidars who have committed dacoity on MGP, have shocked the people of Goa. People of Goa are watching this. People will decide on the course of action."
In a statement issued late night Congress Spokesperson for Goa Sunil Kawthankar said, “BJP has proved it is a threat to all its allies, this is a clear indication to all NDA partners all over country just before Lok Sabha elections that any partnership with BJP will be detrimental to the existence of their own party.”
