Blackout in Jammu after Pakistan launched its first major attempt targeting the city (AP photo)Indian Defence News: Indian defence forces early on Friday morning thwarted another attempt by Pakistan to target Jammu city with drones and other munitions.
The cross-border attack, coming just hours after Pakistan launched its first major attempt targeting the city, came at around came at around 3.50 am on Friday, prompting the activation of Indian air defence systems and the initiation of another complete blackout.
The sounds of blasts were heard at intermittent intervals till 4.45 am, with each time followed by sirens.
“Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire Western Border on the intervening night of 8 and 9 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and befitting reply was given to the CFVs. The Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation. All nefarious designs will be responded with force,” the Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information said in a statement.
Jammu’s Deputy Commissioner also released a statement on social media, appealing to residents to stay calm.
Hours earlier, on Thursday evening, India foiled Pakistan’s first major attack on Jammu city since the 1971 war.
Between 8 pm and 8.30 pm Thursday, eight missiles fired by Pakistan were destroyed midair and a number of drones were shot down by Indian defence systems. A total blackout was in place during this period as well.
No casualties or damage was reported from any military or civil installations in the city.
Meanwhile, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy artillery shelling along the International Border and the Line of Control at locations across Jammu province.
Taking advantage of the cross-border shelling, a group of terrorists tried to cross the International Border in Samba sector. The infiltration attempt was foiled by Border Security Force troops.
“At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K,” the BSF said in a post on X in the early hours of Friday.
However, it was not immediately clear whether any terrorist was hit in the firing, officials said, adding that things would become clearer following a thorough search in the area.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah left Srinagar for Jammu city to take stock of the situation in the wake of Pakistan’s attempts to target Jammu.
