Security forces have found a militant hideout, from where they seized weapons and other items, in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Monday.
According to officials, five improvised explosive devices and two wireless sets were among things recovered from the hideout, which was discovered during a search operation in the forest area of Surankote.
The search, conducted jointly by the Army and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was carried out after security forces received specific intelligence, officials said.
All the IEDs, weighing between 0.5 kg and 5 kg, were destroyed in a controlled explosion on the spot, the officials said.
While two IEDs were found planted inside steel buckets, three others were found packed in tiffin boxes, the officials said.
In addition, the officials said two wireless sets, five packets containing urea, one five-litre gas cylinder, one pair of binoculars, three woolen caps, three blankets, some trousers and utensils were recovered from the hideout.
Officials said searches for militants are continuing.
The searches come amid an intesified crackdown in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam last month, in which 25 tourists and one local man were killed.
The terrorists suspected to have carried out the attacks, including some who infiltrated from Pakistan, are still being searched for by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have released the names and sketches of three terrorists who they said carried out the attack.
