Senior Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday called the exit polls “Modi media poll” and said the INDIA bloc would win 295 Lok Sabha seats. The exit polls have said the BJP-led NDA will clearly win more than 300 seats in the just-concluded elections.
Speaking to media persons at the party headquarters in the afternoon, he said, “Modi poll… This is not called exit polls. It is called Modi media poll. This is Modiji’s polls, his fantasy poll. Have you heard Sidhu Moosewala’s song 295.”
Earlier, Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held a virtual meeting with the party’s Lok Sabha candidates, legislature party leaders and state unit presidents.
On Saturday, top leaders of the INDIA bloc met and claimed that the Opposition bloc would cross the halfway mark of 272. The meeting saw many leaders saying the Congress’s decision to stay away from exit poll debates on television channels would send a wrong message.
The Congress had announced the decision without consulting other parties, which had decided to send their spokespersons anyway. The BJP has already claimed that the Congress had conceded defeat. Subsequently, the Congress announced that leaders of the INDIA bloc including those from the Congress would participate in the debates.
One of the leaders at the meeting said the consensus in the room was that the BJP would be the single-largest party but fall well short of the halfway mark.
After the meeting that went on for more than two hours at his residence, Kharge said the INDIA bloc would secure more than 295 seats.
