Enraged reportedly over not recharging her mobile phone, a 28-year-old homemaker in Bengaluru died by suicide on Sunday after jumping from her building’s terrace.

The deceased has been identified as Shikha Devi, originally from Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh, had married Sandeep Kumar in 2019. The couple were living in Kengeri. They were married for six years.

While she initially stayed with family in Uttar Pradesh, Kumar worked in Bengaluru. Two years ago, he brought Shikha and their two-year-old son to the city, where they lived in a rented ground-floor apartment.

The tragedy unfolded around 5.15 pm when Shikha argued with her husband about not recharging her phone. Within fifteen minutes, she threw her phone aside, rushed to the third-floor terrace, and jumped.

Kumar and other family members immediately took her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Shikha’s father, Anil Kumar Tripathi, arrived from Uttar Pradesh on Monday and told police he doesn’t suspect foul play in his daughter’s death.

Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and launched an investigation into the incident.
