Streaming platforms have not only given new stories to audiences, they have also given actors a chance to show their versatility and range.
Three of the most talented performers today — Shefali Shah, Jim Sarbh and Vir Das — have been nominated for the International Emmy Awards 2023. The three will be the guests at the Express Adda in Mumbai on Monday and will be in conversation with Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express group.
Shah, whose performance in the second season of Delhi Crime (2022) bagged her the Emmys nomination, began her career with theatre and television. She won critical acclaim for her roles in serials Hasratein (1997), Kabhie Kabhie (1997) and Raahein (1999) and films such as Dariya Chhoru (1999), Monsoon Wedding (2001) and Gandhi, My Father (2007).
After creating an impact with her performance in the short film Juice (2017) and playing the leading role in Once Again (2018), she essayed the role of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in the Netflix show Delhi Crime (2019), which brought her critical acclaim.
Sarbh began his film career with antagonistic roles in Neerja (2016), Padmavaat (2018) and Sanju (2018). He has also been actively involved in theatre, performing in an adaptation of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, Rajat Kapoor’s What’s Done is Done (2018), and Kalki Koechlin’s Living Room (2015), among others. His role as Dr Homi Bhabha on the SonyLIV show Rocket Boys Season 2 (2023) won him his Emmys nomination.
Sarbh is also part of several talked-about series, including Four More Shots Please and Made In Heaven.
Das has dabbled in various formats — stand-up comedy, theatre, TV and film. First noticed in Bollywood films such as Badmaash Company (2010) and Delhi Belly (2011), he went on to star in Go Goa Gone (2013) and Shaadi ke Side Effects (2014).
Das has performed in many stand-up specials, including Abroad Understanding (2017) and For India (2020). He got his Emmys nomination for the Netflix special, Landing (2022).
