US host higher education roundtable on India

US State Department has discussed with key American universities to explore possibilities of Indo-US cooperation in the field of education.

Emphasizing greater cooperation in education sector as a fundamental part of all aspects of their enhanced strategic relationship,the US State Department hosted a round table with some of key American universities to explore the possibilities of Indo-US cooperation in the field of higher education.

“The aim was to identify successful and sustainable models for collaboration and partnerships in all types of higher educational institutions including research institutions,professional schools,undergraduate liberal arts schools and community colleges,” the State Department said in a statement.

In all,19 US Universities were represented at the Round table,hosted by the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia,Robert Blake and Dr Molly Maguire Teas,the Senior Advisor for Education in South and Central Asia Bureau of the State Department.

The purpose was to identify types of partnerships with India that are currently working well and to conceive new initiatives that will address growing challenges faced by the two knowledge-based economies,the statement said.

Blake emphasized the common values and knowledge-based societies that bind the two countries and how greater cooperation on higher education is a fundamental part of all aspects of their enhanced strategic relationship.

Blake highlighted how a strong,interconnected education system in both countries will catalyze innovation and cooperation in the future,the State Department said.

Participants agreed that the Round table would help enhance cooperation between the US government and higher learning institutions,ultimately leading to the strengthening of its partnership with India.
