Cricket match at Springdales School
Springdales School organised a special cricket match between the staff (which comprised teaching faculty,office assistants,peons,drivers and helpers) and the students on 15 May,at the school field. There was a lot of excitement as the two teams moved into the field.
Welcoming the guests,principal Dr Jyoti Bose said in addition to recognising and showcasing the skill and talent in the field,the friendly match also hoped to develop not only bonding of all communities but also competitive character and the determination to excel. Chasing a score of 69 runs made by the staff team in 12 overs,the students team made 70 runs with 5 balls remaining.
Chairperson of Springdales Education Society Rajni Kumar congratulated both the teams for their spectacular performance. Major General Narinder Singh,Chairman of Managing Board,congratulated the team.
Hillwoods Academy views Venus transit
Astronomy Club of Hillwoods Academy organised an observation of Venus Transit on June 6. Enthusiastic students,school staff and teachers observed the phenomenon. Students observed the transit through various methods like ball projection and telescope. Astrophotography was also done to witness the event by the club coordinator Babita Kundalia. Students were informed about the Transit of Venus across the Sun,which takes place when Venus passes directly between Sun and Earth,becoming visible against the solar disk,and can be seen from Earth as a small black disk moving across the face of the Sun. Students were thrilled to watch the transit. Transit of Venus is among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena.
St Marks School wins Panasonic video award
St Marks School won the Panasonic KWN Best Video of the year Award. The contest,organised by Panasonic,aims at promoting exchange and mutual understanding between children around the world through visual communication.
The students who were part of this global contest were: Lakshay Arora (VIII-C),Aman Khatri (VIII-B),Tejasva Kalra (VIII-D),Aditya Singh (IX-E),G Vignesh (IX-B),Madhur Handa (X-E),Vishal Kalra (X-A) and Saurav Sharma (X-A).They won the award for their movie: Life is appreciation.
The award was given on the basis of story development,creativity,clarity,technical strengths and overall presentation style. The jury comprised Manish Sharma (MD of Consumer Product Division,Panasonic India),Yoshihiro Mike Kitadeya (Director of Kid Witness News Global Office,Panasonic Corp) and Naveen Chamoli (founding member of Planman Consulting Group).
The eight students and all the performing actors got a medal each along with a certificate. The school has been awarded a digital camera. Anjali Aggarwal,principal of St Marks School,was thanked by the officials of Panasonic India for the participation.
ASN sr sec school holds mock summit
ASN Senior Secondary School in Mayur Vihar conducted a Mock Summit on sustainable development,reorientation of afforestation in tropical rainforests and on assessment of structured and institutional framework for the MICAD {Malaysia,India,Canada,South America ( Brazil) and Denmark}. It was based on the commitment towards sustainable development for the protection of Earth from threats like deforestation,pollution,carbon emission,depletion of ozone layer,melting of glaciers and global warming.
The chief guests were Prabhjot Sodhi,National Coordinator of Global Environment Facility United Nations Development Program and Centre for Environmental Education and S P Kapoor,a freelance scientist working on Geothermal Energy Generation with United Nations.
The program started with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guests,followed by a welcome speech given by the school principal Sonia Luthra. She said forests are our future,dont make them history.
The students represented as the delegates of Malaysia,India,Canada,South America (Brazil) and Denmark. They discussed the problems and the measures taken by their countries. They made everyone aware about the Earths environmental issues and adoption of possible structured and institutional solutions.
Sodhi said it is a duty of every citizen to work towards the environmental issues. Kapoor also added that geothermal energy is a conventional source of energy and should be used in a proper way.
The occasion was graced by Chairman K L Luthra,who emphasised on the plantation of saplings for the generations to come. Manager Rajiv Nayan was also present. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks given by Sonia Luthra.
Workshop on Indo-Swiss bilateral relations
The Embassy of Switzerland and Delhi Public School Society are celebrating the year 2012 as the year of Indo-Swiss friendship. Under this umbrella theme,a number of projects have been planned and finalised.
The first phase of the project began on April 25 at the Embassy of Switzerland New Delhi and comprised a workshop on Indo-Swiss bi-lateral relations and Switzerland.
Further,a workshop was held at DPS,Rohini,on May 8. It was conducted by Sarah Baettig,Officer-Projects,Events and Education,Embassy of Switzerland. Approximately 55 students,of classes VI,VII and VIII,attended the workshop.
The topic covered was: Indo-Swiss bilateral relations. The discussion used varied didactic tools and methodologies in order to make the learning experience interesting.
An important objective of this project is to enable the discovery of similarities and diversities between India and Switzerland,thereby highlighting existing bilateral relations and paving the way for strengthening and expanding the same.
Students will also be invited to take part in a series of activities,which will include: making an Indo-Swiss calendar,a brochure on the unexplored Switzerland,poster-making competition with the theme Indo-Swiss friendship,photography exhibition and many others.
DPS,RK Puram,student secures 9th rank in CLAT
The results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) were announced on May 28. CLAT is an all-India entrance examination conducted by 14 national law universities for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M).
Over 27,000 students sat for the exam conducted for approximately 1,400 seats. Aradhya Sethia,a student of Class XII-W of Delhi Public School,RK Puram,secured all-India Rank 9 and Delhi Rank 1 in CLAT 2012. He has been selected for National Law School of India University (NLSIU),Bangalore.
In the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) conducted for the admission to the 5-year BA,LL.B (Hons) degree programme of National Law University,and Delhi,Aradhya secured Rank 6 and got selected.
Mount Carmel to mark its 40th Founding Day
Mount Carmel School will be celebrating its 40th Founding Day anniversary on July 10,honouring God for His blessings over the years. Chief guest on the occasion will be Air Chief Marshal Browne. The highlight of the occasion is the release of a coffee table book,reminiscing the four decades. A film will also be released showcasing the values and ethics of the school. The school is known for the spectacular dramas it produces and the Drama Club of the school will present vignettes from these dramas.
Tagore International students visit France,US
Fifteen students and three teachers of Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar,had the unique opportunity of visiting France from April 24 to May 10. This visit was part of an Indo-French exchange programme to Lycee Broceliande,a school in Guer in the province of Bretagne,France. The visit was a unique exchange in that each French correspondent played host to one of the visitors from Tagore International. As a sequel there will be a visit of the French correspondents in January next year,when they will be hosted by the Indian correspondents during their stay in India. Thirteen days of the trip were spent with the French families and two days in Paris. Bretagne,which formed a major part of their stay,is a typical French countryside with scenic beauty. Classes were also attended and a visit to Lycée et Collège Broceliande was organised. A visit to the city of Rennes,a visit to Mt Saint Michel,part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites,rappling at Domaine de Trémelin,situated in a 220 hectares forest was a part of the itinerary.
At Maure de Bretagne there was a grand Repas Indienne,an Indian night where an Indian meal was prepared not only by the student correspondents but even the parents and the teachers of Lycee. At the Town Hall the students attended a reception with the Mayor of Guer. The students also visited Paris,the capital of France,which they found picturesque and full of monuments. Eiffel Tower,Dame the Church,Le Louvre-the museum,Versailles Palace,Arc de Triomphe,Champs-Elysees, Place de la Concorde,Place Vendome and Gare du Nord were also visited.
The host families showered each visiting Tagorean with care and attention,making the visit memorable for one and all.
Besides,thirteen students along with a teacher were a part of a delegation that visited the Kennedy Space Centre near Orlando,United States.
The nine-day trip from the 10th to the 19th of May gave them an opportunity to tour up close NASAs launch and landing facilities,experience interactive simulators where they were trained to be astronauts in the simulators room,enjoy live shows and have jaw-dropping encounters with massive rockets.
They even met veteran NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence,who spoke about her experiences and journey with NASA.
During their stay in Orlando they visited Universal Studios,Disneyworld,the famous cocoa beach,Apollo Saturn V Centre and Florida mall.
On the 7th day,the group left for New York where they travelled in metros and also walked long distances. Sightseeing to the Statue of Liberty,Times Square and Central Park formed part of the itinerary.
The trip was a perfect blend of education and fun where the students learned valuable life skills.
NASA especially motivated them to choose a career as astronauts.
Two students of the school have been selected to represent India at the Asian Youth Development Program in Okinawa. The aim of the program is to find ways and come up to solutions to combat problems related to the environment at the global level. They will be a part of program in the month of August 2012. Representatives from other Asian countries will also be the participants
The primary school Headmistress Preeti Chadha,along with the French teacher,visited Auckland Girls Public School,New Zealand as part of an educational exchange programme. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between principal Elizabeth and Chadha for the exchange programme to continue each new year between teachers and students.
Elizabeth was at the schooling the month of October 2011. During her stay she observed the classes,interacted with the teachers and witnessed the cultural events. She felt privileged to be in the school.
