EC to announce Lok Sabha polls schedule at 3 pm tomorrow

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday said the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections will be announced on Saturday. The Commission will address a press conference at 3 pm on Saturday to announce the dates.

The term of the 17th Lok Sabha is set to end on June 16 while the terms of the Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim assemblies will end on June 11, June 2, June 24 and June 2, respectively.

The EC’s announcement comes just hours after election commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu took charge and joined Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar to complete the three-member Commission. The two had been appointed by the President on Thursday.

Last time, the EC had announced the poll schedule on March 10, 2019, which included polling in seven phases from April 11 to May 19, with counting of votes on May 23.
