Gold, silver prices corrected today: After a bumper rally over the past few weeks, the precious metals market witnessed a sharp correction on Friday, as both Gold and Silver prices tumbled on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). The decline came amid a profit-taking wave triggered by specific external market factors that temporarily eased geopolitical and economic anxieties. Gold prices of 24 kt on MCX, which had recently touched a record high of Rs 1,32,294 per 10 grams, fell by around 3 per cent to Rs 1,25,957 per 10 grams. Silver saw an even steeper fall, declining by more than 8 per cent, slipping from Rs 1,70,415 per kg to Rs 1,53,929 per kg.

Traffic snarls in Diwali week: Traffic curbs have been imposed around Delhi and NCR cities to regulate traffic on Dhanteras and in Diwali week. Delhi this week has witnessed multiple traffic logjams, with commuters stuck on heavy traffic routes for hours. The traffic police in Delhi has also issued advisory for routes around South Delhi due to Dhanteras shopping and the Travis Scott concert in JLN Stadium today.

Dhanteras 2025 Live Updates: Dhanteras buying goes on; high gold prices drive 40 pc surge in silver sales

Despite high prices, consumer demand for silver outpaced gold on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras, with silver coin sales surging 35-40 per cent year-on-year and overall value more than doubling, even as the jewellery body expects a 15 per cent volume drop for gold.

Dhanteras, the most auspicious day in the Hindu calendar for buying precious metals, is being celebrated over two days until 1:45 pm on Sunday. Jewellery stores remain open through midnight and on Sunday.

While gold prices surged 63 per cent to Rs 1,32,000 per 10 grams of 24-carat (inclusive of taxes) in the national capital -- up from Rs 81,400 last Dhanteras on October 29, 2024 -- silver prices gone up by 40 per cent, yet demand held firm.

Dhanteras 2025 Live Updates: Maruti hits record sales on Dhanteras, expects to cross 50k units

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India on Saturday said it expects to have record sales on Dhanteras clocking over 50,000 units, while rival Hyundai Motor India also posted over 20 per cent growth over last year at about 14,000 units.

This year Dhanteras is spread over two days as it was in the last year between Saturday and Sunday. Although many customers hesitate to buy the metal on Saturday, Maruti Suzuki India is expecting to reach around 41,000 deliveries today, company Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Partho Banerjee told reporters in an interaction.

"This is going to be the all-time high deliveries, which we have done during the period of any time. Moreover, we are expecting that there will be another 10,000 customers who have hesitated to take the delivery today, due to Saturday, they will be taking the delivery tomorrow," he noted.

Delhi Police on Saturday stepped up security across the city for Dhanteras and the upcoming Diwali festival, with focus on safeguarding residents and ensuring smooth movement in the crowded areas and commercial hubs of the capital.

According to a statement, multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place at the key markets, crowded spaces, and high-footfall commercial areas.

Adequate deployment of police personnel and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been made across all the districts of the national capital, the statement said.

Delhi Traffic Police has also ramped up deployment to manage heavy vehicular movement, ensure pedestrian safety, and facilitate public convenience.

Dhanteras 2025 Live Updates: Gold drops Rs 2,400 to Rs 1,32,400/10g on Dhanteras in Delhi markets

Gold prices retreated from record levels and dropped by Rs 2,400 to Rs 1,32,400 per 10 grams in the national capital on Saturday, even as buyers flocked to jewellery stores across the country on Dhanteras, marking the start of the Diwali festival.

According to the All India Sarafa Association, the precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had surged by Rs 3,200 to touch an all-time high of Rs 1,34,800 per 10 grams on Friday.

In the local bullion market, gold of 99.5 per cent purity also saw a sharp pullback, depreciating by Rs 2,400 to Rs 1,31,800 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes). It had touched a lifetime high of Rs 1,34,200 per 10 grams in the previous session. Prices of gold of 24 karat have risen Rs 51,000 per 10 grams, or 62.65 per cent, compared to Rs 81,400 per 10 grams recorded on Dhanteras last year, which was celebrated on October 29, 2024.

Dhanteras 2025 Live Updates: Dhanteras festival spending hits record Rs 1 lakh cr on gold rush

Indian consumers spent an estimated Rs 1 lakh crore during the Dhanteras festival this year, driven by robust gold and silver purchases despite sharp price increases, a leading traders' body said on Saturday.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said gold and silver sales alone accounted for Rs 60,000 crore of the total, marking a 25 per cent increase from last year, as shoppers flocked to bullion markets despite gold prices surging 60 per cent year-on-year to cross Rs 1,30,000 per 10 grams.

"The past two days have seen an unprecedented rush in jewellery markets," said Pankaj Arora, national president of CAIT's jewellery chapter, the All India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation. Delhi's bullion markets recorded sales exceeding Rs 10,000 crore, he said in a statement.

Since morning, customers have been coming in a steady flow. The market is far from dull. People are buying everything, silver coins, utensils, pooja items, and gold coins. The response is really encouraging," Mittal told ANI.
