Denied LS poll ticket, BJP’s Sunil Soni to fight from Raipur City South
The bypolls were necessitated after sitting MLA Brijmohan Agrawal resigned after winning the Raipur LS seat.

The ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh Saturday announced former MP Sunil Soni, who was denied a ticket in 2024 Lok Sabha polls, as its candidate for bypolls to Raipur City South Assembly seat.
The bypolls were necessitated after sitting MLA Brijmohan Agrawal resigned after winning the Raipur LS seat. The BJP has never lost from Raipur City South Assembly seat.
Agarwal, who had won from the seat eight times on the trot, had even emerged victorious when Raipur was part of undivided Madhya Pradesh.
Soni, 62, who was elected to the LS in 2019 for the first time, was also vice-president of BJP’s state unit. However, he was among the four sitting MPs from the state who were denied tickets in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He was also the mayor of Raipur from 2003-10.
