
NDA Meeting Highlights: Taking a swipe at the Opposition alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed as meeting of 38 parties on Tuesday, and said that “although India has a long tradition of coalitions, those formed with negativity have never succeeded”. He added that a coalition based on the “compulsion of power”, “corruption” and “dynastic politics”, is harmful to the country.
“No party is big or small in NDA, BJP got majority in 2014 and 2019 but NDA formed government,” he said. Modi called the alliance a legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani and thanked leaders like Parkash Singh Badal, Balasaheb Thackeray, Ajit Singh and Sharad Yadav for contributing to shaping NDA. Leaders from 38 parties including Ekanth Shinde, K Palaniswami, Ramdas Athavale, and Chirag Paswan were in Delhi to attend the meeting.
The NDA gathering saw the following names at their meeting: AIADMK, Shiv Sena (Shinde), NPP (National People’s Party, Meghalaya), NDPP (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, Nagaland), SKM (Sikkim Krantikari Morcha), JJP (Jannayak Janata Party), AJSU (All Jharkhand Students’ Union), RPI (Republican Party of India), MNF (Mizo National Front), Tamil Maanila Congress, Indiya Makkal Kalvi Munnetra Kazhagam (IMKMK) from Tamil Nadu, IPFT (Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura), BPP (Bodo People’s Party), PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi), MGP (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), Apna Dal, AGP (Asom Gana Parishad), Rashtriya Lok Jan Shakti Party, Nishad Party, UPPL (United People’s Party Liberal, Assam), AIRNC (All India NR Congress, Puducherry), Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt, Dhadial), among others.
All eyes Tuesday were on the Opposition and NDA meetings, as they firmed up partnerships for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, giving an emerging picture of how inter-party dynamics would look like going forward.
For now, 64 parties are under the INDIA or NDA umbrella. But there are some major parties that have stayed away, either due to the politics at play in their states, their equations with specific parties, or their desire to come across as neutral.

Seeking to contrast the NDA with the Opposition alliance, he said while the NDA is a “coalition of contributions and strength”, the latter is an alliance of “compulsions”, where “the glue that binds them together is compromise with principles and values”.
“When an alliance is formed due to compulsion of power, with the intention of corruption, based on dynastic politics, keeping in mind casteism and regionalism, then that alliance is very harmful to the country,” he said.

The BJP and its NDA partners on Tuesday hit out at the opposition parties, saying giving a new name to their alliance will not change their character and the 2024 Lok Sabha battle is going to be “Bharat Mata versus INDIA”.
BJP IT department head Amit Malviya said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) of the opposition parties had to kill its existence and acquire a new identity even when those who are part of this ‘new' alliance haven't changed “National Democratic Alliance was founded in 1998. 25 years later, on a day, an expanded, stronger, NDA is meeting. Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal founder and former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha said in a tweet, “It will now be Bharat Mata versus INDIA (new name of opposition alliance).” He described the opposition's INDIA grouping as an alliance of those who fill their pockets with the hard-earned money of the people and “suck poor people's blood”. "Indian economy moved from 10th place globally to 5th during NDA rule, I can assure you it will rank 3rd in our 3rd term," PM Modi said after the NDA allies meeting today.

Meanwhile, the Opposition front on Tuesday gave itself a name – INDIA, or Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.
“NDA's vote share was 38 per cent in 2014 and 45 per cent in 2019. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, NDA's vote share will be above 50 per cent because of its allies who are working hard,' Modi said.
'People have made up their mind to give the mandate to NDA for a third consecutive term,' he said.
Attacking the Opposition alliance he said, 'They can come closer for political selfishness but they cannot come together. Opposition underestimates wisdom of common people, but public knows what is the glue of selfish gains that binds them,'
'In politics, there can be competitiveness but not enmity. Unfortunately, today opposition has made it its identity to abuse us. We always kept India above all political interests. It is the NDA govt that conferred Bharat Ratna on Pranab da. NDA also conferred the Padma award on Sharad Pawar, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Muzaffar Baig and many other leaders who were not with BJP-NDA. Speaking at the NDA allies meet in Delhi, PM Modi said that no party is big or small in this alliance. He said that the alliance was not formed in opposition to any party but to bring stability to the country.
"NDA's ideology puts security of nation, progress, empowerment of people ahead of everything else," he said.

With 38 parties joining the National Democratic Alliance meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said their coming together is a matter of "immense joy" and described the bloc as a time-tested alliance.
He tweeted, "It is a matter of immense joy that our valued NDA partners from across India will be attending the meeting in Delhi today. Ours is a time-tested alliance which seeks to further national progress and fulfil regional aspirations."
Union minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde welcomed the leaders, from the BJP as well as allies, who arrived at the venue of the meeting. (PTI)

The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party announced Sunday that it has joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and will fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a part of the alliance.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting on Tuesday will deliberate on its strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and there is no possibility of any discussion on sharing of seats, one of its constituents Apna Dal (S) said.
Asked about the NDA meeting, Apna Dal (Soneylal) leader and Union Minister Anupriya Patel told PTI, "NDA meetings keep happening. There is no scope for seat sharing discussion in this forum . Any discussion on seat-sharing is not even possible in this meeting. For that, parties hold discussion with the BJP leadership in separate meetings." "But definitely, the meeting is going to discuss how to win the maximum number of seats in Lok Sabha and give strength to our alliance while taking the NDA government's achievements to the people and keeping the ground realities in mind," she added. Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel, NCP leader (Ajit Pawar faction) arrived in Delhi to attend the NDA meeting this afternoon.
NCP leader Ajit Pawar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Sunday afternoon (July 2), after recent political developments in his party reportedly left him disgruntled, resulting in him joining the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) government.
After Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde announced the cabinet on Friday, Pawar was allotted the finance and planning ministries.

N. Rangaswamy, Puducherry CM and president of All India Namathu Rajiyam Congress (AINRC) arrived in Delhi for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting this afternoon.
He assumed charge in May 2021 after the NR Congress-BJP alliance had secured the majority in Puducherry, winning 16 seats in the 30-member assembly.

While declining to share details of his talks with BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J P Nadda, he asserted that his concerns have been addressed positively by them.
He, however, made it clear that his party will contest from Hajipur, a Lok Sabha seat currently represented by his estranged uncle and Union minister Pashupati Kumar Paras.
Ahead of the NDA meeting today, Assam minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) chief Atul Bora says, "Today is an important day, this meeting will be crucial meeting as elections are around the corner. Opposition meeting will be of no use as everyone knows what Congress did during their tenure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Opposition, calling the ongoing meeting of Opposition leaders in Bengaluru a “hardcore corruption convention”.
Taking multiple shots at the Opposition during his address at the virtual inauguration of the new Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, PM Modi said these parties followed the mantra of “by and for the family”.
“Today, people of the country have already decided to bring our government back in 2024. Even then, people who are responsible for the poor plight of India have set up their own shops,” PM Modi said.
Ahead of the NDA meeting today, Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM and BJP leader Brajesh Pathak says, "Leaders who have a mass base across the country are coming together for a meeting, under the leadership of BJP. This is the beginning of 2024 elections."
As of July 15, 19 parties had confirmed their participation in the NDA meeting, after Nadda sent letters to allies — including newer ones like the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha — inviting them for the conclave.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present at the NDA meeting, seen as the BJP’s bid to display the ruling coalition’s show of strength.
Besides the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the NDA allies participating in the meeting include a number of smaller parties from Bihar as well as several ruling allies from the Northeast region. They include the Chirag Paswan-led LJP (Ram Vilas), Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, Sanjay Nishad’s Nishad Party (all from Bihar), Anupriya Patel-led Apna Dal (Sonelal), JJP from Haryana, Pawan Kalyan-led Janasena from Andhra Pradesh, AIADMK, Tamil Maanila Congress and Indiya Makkal Kalvi Munnetra Kazhagam (all from Tamil Nadu), All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) from Jharkhand, Conrad Sangma’s NCP from Meghalaya, NDPP from Nagaland, SKF from Sikkim, Zoramthanga’s Mizo National Front, and the AGP from Assam.
Om Prakash Rajbhar, the president of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), told The Indian Express earlier that he had not received any letter so far from Nadda to join the NDA meeting.
The BJP, in a bid to revive the moribund National Democratic Alliance (NDA), will hold a meeting of 38 political parties in Delhi today. It is scheduled to begin at 4 pm, just as the Opposition wraps up its talks in Bengaluru.
Calling NDA the ideal coalition to “serve” and “strengthen” the country, BJP president J P Nadda, in a rare press conference, said: “The BJP is the only party that, since it came into existence, has pursued issues ideologically — be it the Ram Temple or Article 370, we have always stood for a strong nation.”
