The BJP on Saturday accused Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan of making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a charge denied by the former who said he has not named anyone and dared the saffron party to go to court.

Amid outrage over BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks in Lok Sabha against BSP’s Danish Ali, former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb shared a video clip on social media platform X purportedly of Bhan commenting against the PM and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar without naming them.

Deb who is also BJP’s Haryana in-charge dubbed Bhan’s remarks as a reflection of the “pervert mentality” of the opposition party. “Is it Rahul Gandhi’s shop of love? Did any Opposition leader condemn this? Has the Congress asked him to apologise,” asked the Rajya Sabha MP.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said Bhan has used petty and indecent words for the prime minister which cannot be condemned enough. “It has caused pain and anguish among not only BJP members but also among people of the country. Congress leaders have in the past also used similarly tasteless and objectionable remarks against not only him but also his parents,” he alleged.

Bhan, however, defended his remarks.”I didn’t even take a name. What did I say that was wrong? Did I use abusive words? I only stated the truth. I would have apologised if had said anything wrong….BJP should keep their MPs and leaders under control. I have said similar things in 20-30 rallies before. If I have said anything wrong they can go to court,” the Congress leader said.

He said the words over which BJP has been raising objection are part of Haryanvi language. “Such words are part of normal language in Haryana and are not an abuse. I made the remarks as part of a light conversation at a press conference. It is now being turned into an unnecessary issue,” Bhan added. Haryana BJP chief Om Prakash Dhankar, however, sought action against Bhan.

“The Congress party should apologise. Udai Bhan has crossed all the limits of indecency. It has become a culture of Congress party to use abusive language. A few days earlier, party’s another leader Randeep Surjewala had also used abusive language and said that he would curse the public who votes for BJP. It seems like the Congress party is extremely angry. When objections were raised against Bidhuri’s remarks, Union Minister Rajnath Singh stood up and condemned it on floor of the House,” Dhankar said. The BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Bidhuri. Speaker Om Birla has warned him of “strict action” if such behaviour is repeated but the opposition is demanding stringent action against the BJP MP.
