Youth kills paramour’s daughter

In order to marry another girl,Behera tried to kill the woman with whom he eloped 5 months ago.

A man allegedly killed a 3-year-old girl and attempted to eliminate her mother with whom he had eloped five months ago in Odisha’s Ganjam district,police said on Friday.

The youth did so to marry another girl,the police said.

“Nityananda Behera (27) of Ambapua village of Ganjam district was taken to court after he was booked under charges of kidnapping,murder,attempt to murder and causing disappearance of evidence,” Baranga police inspector Pradeep Kumar Rout said.

The accused had eloped with his aunt along with the child in March this year and had settled at Kapilaprasad area of Bhubaneswar. Soon he developed a fondness for a neighbour and promised to marry her for which he planned to eliminate the woman and her daughter.

“On October 3,Nityananda took the woman and her child to Nandankanan and after visiting the zoological garden took them to a canal near Sanamundali here in the evening. After ensuring that the woman did not know how to swim,he pushed her into the canal and escaped from the spot with the child. But the woman somehow managed to come out of water and lodged a complaint with us,” Rout said.

Tracking Nityanand with the help of his cell phone tower,the police apprehended him from his native village on Wednesday,he said.

“During interrogation,the accused said he had also murdered the child and had thrown her body into a canal located in Khurda district,” Rout said confirming that local Tangi police had registered an unnatural death (UD) case after retrieving the body of the baby from the canal on October 6.
