The Supreme Court’s stand that assets of judges cannot be disclosed in a set form of standards was on Tuesday answered by the Delhi High Court which said the declaration of assets on official websites of some higher courts showed the uniform standards have been evolved.
A three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah referred to websites of the Supreme Court and High Courts of Kerala and Madras to buttress the stand how the resolution of various courts to make public the assets of judges can be made.
“It can be seen from the assets disclosure of the judges which are available on websites that the uniform standards have been evolved regarding the nature of the information and the periodicity of the declaration to be made,” said the Bench, also comprising justices Vikramjit Sen and S Muralidhar.
“The above development shows that the judges have perfectly understood how much information should be disclosed and in what manner they have to put the information on the website,” the Bench said.
The Bench’s remarks came on a submission by Attorney General G E Vahanvati that the resolution by the judges to make their assets public would not have a binding effect of law.
