Software engineer sent to judicial custody in rape case

A Delhi court remanded to 14 days' judicial custody a software engineer who was arrested for allegedly raping a woman and filming the act at his residence.

A Delhi court on Monday remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody a software engineer who was arrested for allegedly raping a woman and filming the act at his residence here.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Naveen Arora sent accused Dushyant Verma to jail till May 25 after he was produced on the expiry of his judicial remand.

Verma,son of a businessman who operates a chain of hotels in Shillong in Meghalaya,was arrested following a complaint from the victim,an LLB graduate.

She claimed she was raped at his Maharani Bagh residence two weeks ago.

She alleged Verma filmed the act and threatened her with dire consequences if she complained to the police or others.

Police seized a laptop from Verma’s residence in which there were three videos which purportedly showed that he was forcing himself on women.

Further investigations were on and efforts were being made to identify the women in videos and whether they were willing to file complaints against the accused,police said.

The law graduate claimed she was invited for a lunch by Verma on April 18. Though her impression was that they were going to a restaurant,Verma allegedly insisted on going to his house and have food there,she said.

The girl claimed the accused sent his domestic help to get food from outside and raped her.
