A highly decomposed body, which was found in a rucksack in a house in Uttam Nagar,West Delhi,on Friday evening was identified as that of a 21-year old married Burmese woman.
The victim was identified as Chong alias Cecilia, who married a call centre executive from Manipur in 2005 and had been living with him in South Delhi for the last five years. She had been living on and off with the accused, identified as Nwayor Mac Aghagbor,in his rented accommodation for the last two months, police said. His name is not Innocent Nwayo,as reported earlier, they added.
Investigations revealed that Aghagbor,a Nigerian, had given a forged passport to the landlord when he moved into the house in February. Her husband left her due to her proximity with Nigerians. We managed to trace him on Monday with the help of an Election Commission card that we recovered from the house, said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan.
Police said it was the EC card of a friend of Chong, recovered from the house, that led them to her husband. When contacted, she told us she might know the victim and put us in touch with Chongs common friends. We traced the husband with the help of these friends, Renganathan said.
Though it is yet to be ascertained if Aghagbor has fled India, police said he could be in Mumbai. Renganathan said as the accused had come to Delhi via Mumbai,it is possible that he must have gone back. A team is camping in Mumbai to trace the accused through his friends there, the Additional Commissioner of Police added.
Police said all their efforts are now aimed at locating Aghagbor. Around 50-60 Nigerians from Nawada and other areas were questioned at the Uttam Nagar police station on Monday.
We are questioning Nigerians in the city. But they are not willing to come out with information regarding Aghagbors background and, since it concerns a foreign national,we have to be very careful, said Renganathan. Prince,a top official from the Nigerian embassy, has promised to provide more details on Aghagbor to the police soon.
The murder had come to light on Friday evening after the landlord of the house,Gurudev Singh Khalsa, alerted the police to a foul smell emanating from the house. Interestingly,a copy of the Bible was found at the crime spot.
On Monday, police opened a look-out circular against the accused. Police said they were checking with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to ascertain if he has left the country yet.
