Man arrested for murdering lover

Geeta Vaid got married in 1998 but was separated from her husband.

A 35-year-old man was arrested here for allegedly murdering his lover,a manager with an export company,six months ago in Jharkhand after she threatened to approach police if he did not marry her.

On a tip-off,Sanjay Surana,who was evading arrest,was apprehended from south Delhi’s Mahipalpur yesterday for the alleged murder of Geeta Vaid,Chhaya Sharma,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South),said today.

Vaid was missing from Lajpat Nagar since July four last year and her body was discovered in a forest in Jharkhand’s Giridh area. At the scene of crime,the body was found wrapped in a saffron colour cloth with sindhoor,lemon,chili,black cloth and bones etc.

Sharma said Vaid was working with Orange Overseas,an export company in Lajpat Nagar as manager since last 6-7 years. She got married in 1998 but was separated from her husband.

During investigations by Giridh Police,she said,it came to light that Vaid was in relationship with Surana,who used to work in a company which deals in manufacture of garments.

“She was pressing him to marry her. In April last year,Surana refused to marry her after which she threatened him that she would file a complaint against him in police. Later she went missing in July. It also came to light that Vaid went to Giridh with Surana’s servant Dalip on July four,” she said.

Giridh Police,meanwhile,conducted raids at the Lajpat Nagar residence of Surana,who originally belongs to Churu in Rajasthan,but was found absconding.

“When he came to know about police search,he switched off his mobile phone. Giridh Police also got a non-bailable warrant issued against Surana,” she said.
