Honour killing: Haryana youth murdered for marrying girl of same clan

A 21-year-old youth who had married against the wishes of the community has been beaten to death in Narwana,Haryana.

A 21-year-old youth who had married against the wishes of the community has been beaten to death in Narwana,Haryana on Wednesday.

Ravinder,who had gone to bring his wife from her parent’s house,was killed by the residents of the girl’s village.

Ravinder was accompanied by a police officer when the incident took place. “We received information that the boy was killed by the villagers. The police team has gone there for investigations and the body has already been brought here,” said B Satish Balan,Superintendent of Police (SP).

Ravinder had married Sonia in March this year,against her family’s wishes as they opposed the marriage saying both belonged to the same clan.

In a similar incident,villagers ostracised a youth and his family members as he had married a girl of the same clan. The issue had snowballed creating tension and clashes in Dharana village of Haryana.

Caste system runs deep in the rural hinterland of some States of India where people are still bound to the old practices.
