Fear for lives over Sohrab case statement: Builders

Two builders who are key witnesses of the CBI in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case have claimed they are living in fear.

Two builders who are key witnesses of the CBI in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case have claimed they are living in fear.

“The Gujarat Police have treated us worse than even terrorists, and I fear my and my family’s security even today,” said Raman Patel on Sunday at a Patel community function,a day after Chief Minister allotted Home Department portfolio to Himmatnagar MLA Praful Patel.

Raman and his brother Dashrath Patel were felicitated for being brave enough to expose the politician-police extortion nexus which led to the arrest of Amit Shah, former minister of state for home,in the Sohrabuddin case.

Raman said there was a need for the Patels to get together so that no one from the community had to suffer what his family went through.

Ramesh Patel, former Congress councillor from Naranpura and one of the organisers of the function, said various community leaders had gathered a week ago to felicitate the Patel brothers for their courage. “The other intention for organising the programme was to unite the so far scattered Patel community in Gujarat so that no such incidents as faced by Raman Patel and Dashrath Patel occurred to any Patel in Gujarat,” he said.

The CBI has stated that the firing on the office of Popular Builders, owned by the Patel brothers,in Navrangpura in December 2004 at the behest of Sheikh was part of a larger conspiracy to eliminate Sheikh.
