Four policemen were found involved in alleged extortion of money at ‘no parking’ zones in the national capital,government said on Tuesday.
“Since the year 2006,four police personnel have been found involved in alleged extortion in the name of ‘no parking’,” Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told Lok Sabha on Monday.
“Out of these four personnel,case has also been registered against one police personnel under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988,” the minister said.
In 2007,one person was also found involved in running of unauthorised parking and a case was registered against him under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code,Ramachandran said.
The Centre said that it is also aware of the acute parking problem in the city. “Though the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) provide parking lots for parking of vehicles,there has been rapid growth in the number of automobiles in Delhi,leading,inter alia,to parking problem.
“To obviate this problem,the MCD and NDMC has taken steps for construction of more multi-level and conventional parking lots,” the minister said.
