Allahabad HC no to ‘monitoring’ of Amar case probe

The Allahabad HC rejected a writ petition filed by a Kanpur resident, praying for its 'monitoring' of the probe with regard to an FIR filed by him against Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

The Allahabad High Court on Saturday rejected a writ petition filed by a Kanpur resident, praying for its “monitoring” of the probe with regard to an FIR filed by him against Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

A Division Bench comprising Justices Sunil Ambawani and Virendra Singh turned down the petition of Shivakant Tripathi, observing that “there appears to be no ground for our intervention at this early stage.

“We do not understand why the petitioner has moved the court barely a week after lodging the FIR on October 15,” the Bench said.

Tripathi,a Kanpur-based social activist who runs a school, had lodged an FIR with Babupurwa police station there, accusing Amar Singh and his wife Pankaja of amalgamating companies allegedly owned or run by them for converting black money into white.

The SP leader has dismissed the charge. Uttar Pradesh police has transferred the case to Kolkata police as majority of companies mentioned in the FIR were registered in Kolkata.

Tripathi had moved the High Court alleging that the people named in the FIR could “use their influence in affecting the investigation process”.

In the petition,he had named the Principal Secretary (Home) of Uttar Pradesh, the SSP of Kanpur and the in-charge of Babupurwa police station as respondents.
