Pimpri Chinchwad police have booked a man convicted under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly jumping parole. Officials of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar prison have lodged an FIR in this case at Ravet police station on Wednesday.
Assistant sub-inspector Santosh Potghan, investigating officer of this case, said the accused is a 26-year-old man, who was arrested and then convicted in the case of alleged sexual assault on a child in Latur district. He was then lodged at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar prison for serving his punishment.
Police said the accused was granted parole for four days on July 18, 2024, for attending the wedding ceremony of a relative in the jurisdiction of Ravet police station in Pimpri Chinchwad. Later, his parole period was extended by four more days, and he was asked to report back to prison by July 25. However, he has not returned till date, the police said.
Prison authorities have initiated legal action against him, as per which an offence was registered against him under section 262 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
