Chirag Paswan calls lateral entry in UPSC ‘completely wrong’, says will ‘raise the matter before government’

Paswan said that his party, the LJP (RV), was "absolutely not in favour" of such appointments.

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) President and Hajipur MP Chirag Paswan on Monday called lateral entry in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) “completely wrong”, and said that he was planning to raise the issue before the government.

The Union Public Service Commission on August 17 issued an advertisement seeking applications for “talented and motivated Indian nationals for Lateral Recruitment” to the posts of joint secretary, director, and deputy secretary in 24 ministries of the Union Government.

Paswan is the first NDA ally to criticise the lateral entry into 45 posts in the bureaucracy.

While highlighting his party’s stance on the issue, he said that the LJP (RV) was “absolutely not in favour” of such appointments. “Wherever there are government appointments, the provisions of reservation must be followed,” he added.

He further said that the way in which the matter had come to light was “of concern” to him, given that his party is a part of the government, and he has the platform to bring forth these issues.

Earlier today, Congress continued its attack on the lateral entry issue, with Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, calling it an “attack on Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis”. He said, “BJP’s distorted version of Ram Rajya seeks to destroy the Constitution and snatch reservations from Bahujans”.
