Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Smriti Zubin Irani, rolled out the Haj Suvidha App for the pilgrims on Sunday. According to the ministry, the Haj Suvidha App, which has been developed by BISAG-N, will be a “game-changer”, as it will provide necessary information and access to services such as training modules, travel and accommodation details, emergency contact numbers, among others.

“The app offers solutions to common problems faced by the pilgrims during their journey and will be a boon especially to those performing Haj for the first time in their life,” the statement said.

The pilgrimage begins in June this year.

The central government also initiated a two-day training programme as part of preparations for Haj 2024 at Vigyan Bhavan.

More than 550 trainers from across the country attended the programme that aims to make “make Haj a smoother and comfortable experience” for pilgrims, the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs said in a statement.

The programme is “intended to sensitise and educate the trainers who impart further training to the Haj pilgrims in order to ensure that the pilgrims have a fulfilling experience and are aware of the various aspects of the pilgrimage,” it said.

A Haj Guide was also launched to further ease the process. The guide is published in 10 languages and will be issued to all Haj pilgrims, the ministry said.

Later, speaking at the event, Irani highlighted the government’s efforts to make the pilgrimage a transparent, uniform, cost efficient, safe and spiritually fulfilling experience for the pilgrims.

“Increased enthusiasm and participation by pilgrims under the Ladies Without Mehram (LWM) category is a testament to the Government’s commitment towards making Haj inclusive and accessible. The Haj Suvidha App will further ensure better access to facilities by the pilgrims and better administrative coordination and control with prompt grievance redressal and emergency response,” she said.

She also emphasised the importance of training and exhorted the trainers to put in their best efforts to train each and every pilgrim to perform Haj in a safe, peaceful and comfortable manner.

With the objective of improving the training, the ministry has also increased the number of trainers, with one trainer allotted to every 1,150 pilgrims.
