After dismal show in Haryana, Mayawati says no more future poll alliances

In the recently-concluded Haryana elections, BSP and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) fought in alliance. But the BSP drew a blank.

Days after BSP’s dismal performance in Haryana Assembly polls where it was in alliance with INLD, BSP chief Mayawati Friday announced not to forge poll alliances in future, citing unsatisfactory results from such arrangements.

Mayawati announced the decision after a meeting with leaders from the party’s Haryana and Punjab units. In a post in Hindi on X, Mayawati said that BSP transferred its votes to allies in UP and other states but alliance partners lacked the capability to transfer theirs to the BSP due to which desired results couldn’t be achieved.

“In this context, considering the election results of Haryana and the bitter experience of Punjab elections earlier, it has been decided there will be no alliance with regional parties in future,” she said, adding that BSP’s stand to keep distance from NDA and INDIA bloc will continue.
