The BJP Wednesday filed a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had violated the Model Code of Conduct while addressing a public rally at Dausa in Rajasthan on October 20, 2023.
Priyanka, the BJP complaint says, told the gathering that she had seen on TV – and that she did not know whether it was true or not – that PM Modi visited the Devnarain temple and offered an envelope, which later was found to have contained just Rs 21.
“This statement of Priyanka Gandhi has violated the very basic foundation of free and fair elections by invoking the personal religious devotion of thePM Narendra Modi. The very basis of her allegations is ‘I saw on TV; I don’t know whether it is true or not,” the complaint said.
“In the first place, Priyanka has, by her own incontrovertible admission, violated provision of IPC, the Representation of People Act, 1951,” the BJP said.
“The unverified, false statements made by Vadra are grave in nature and cannot be condoned,” the complaint said.
