The panchayat polls saw a heated campaign with the charge on either side led by senior leader leaders, such Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for the BJP, and MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi for the Congress, along with senior state functionaries from all parties.

With these polls taking place a year ahead of the crucial 2026 Assam assembly election and with their sprawling grassroots scope, its outcome will be seen as an important indicator of the parties’ standing in the state.
