Purnea Police has booked Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Baisi MLA Syed Ruknuddin Ahmad for allegedly assaulting a local Janata Dal (United) functionary in “illegal confinement and giving him urine to drink”.
Police identified the victim as Mohammed Rehan Fazal, who was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Purnea, with fractures in a hand and a leg. According to the police, the victim is a witness in a land grab case that allegedly involves the RJD MLA.
Baisi Police station in-charge Sanjeev Kumar said the incident occurred Thursday and brought to the department’s attention Friday. Ahmad was booked under the BNS sections for causing hurt with dangerous objects, causing harm by giving harmful substances, wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly, rioting and criminal intimidation, among others.

“The victim alleged in the FIR that he was beaten by iron rods in illegal confinement by some people and was given urine when he had asked for water. We’re probing the matter,” the officer said.
When contacted, Ahmad claimed he was “not involved in the matter”. Previously part of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), the MLA joined the RJD in 2022.
JD (U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar alleged the incident “reflected the RJD culture and disdain for law and order”.
On its part, the RJD has refused to comment, with spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari saying only: “Let the police investigate the matter and get to the truth”.
