The Election Commission has added 12,817 new polling stations in Bihar, increasing their total number in the state to 90,712. With the new additions, Bihar has become the first state in the country to have less than 1,200 electors in all its polling stations, the EC said on Monday. As part of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, the EC carried out a rationalisation and rearrangement of the existing polling stations and decided to increase their number. The move is aimed at easing voter access and reducing overcrowding during elections, said the poll panel. “This major achievement of Bihar is to be followed by other States/UTs,” the EC said. The EC said enumeration forms of 90.67% (7,16,03,218) of the 7.89 crore electors in Bihar had been received so far, with the deadline coming up on July 25. Of these, “7,08,59,670 forms have been digitised”, the EC said. “CEO/DEOs/EROs/BLOs have held meetings with representatives of all political parties and have shared detailed lists of the 29.62 lakh electors whose forms have not been received so far and also of the nearly 43.93 lakh electors who were not found at their addresses. This is to ensure that the entire election machinery works together in a mission mode so that no eligible elector is left out from the draft Electoral Roll to be published on August 01, 2025,” the EC said.
